Ceramic tile, fired clay, and porcelain are some of the harder materials that you can work on with your HSRT. A couple of special accessories and attachments are required, but, first of all, take good care of yourself. A good dust mask is important to protect you from the irritation of the dust although almost all ceramic tile dust is non-toxic. Ear protection is required as most cutting jobs are noisy, and, of course, eye protection to save your eyesight from possible injury. Also, a pair of light gloves are handy,as some cut edges of tile are sharp.
Ceramic Wall Tile: Fireproof, durable, and attractive, wall tile have lots of uses besides the obvious. In spite of their "hardness" they are reasonably easy to work with. First of all, let's note that Wall Tile is very different from Floor Tile. Floor Tile are fired at a higher temperature, have a lower moisture content, and usually are thicker and heaver, all of which makes them much harder than wall tile. Wall tile are usually about 6in. square, are reddish color on the back, and you can scratch the back with a nail. If you have any problems identifying wall tile, be sure to ask a knowledgeable person at the tile store.
Cutting Wall Tile: Use a Cutting Guide on your HSRT (see ATTACHMENTS) and a specialty accessory bit called a "Tile Cutting Bit". See ACCESSORIES
